The Press Room party at Mahiki

Oh how we danced at The Press Room launch at Mahiki last week. Lasting until the wee small hours we partied with our friends from Flair magazine, Q Fashion Luxury, Belvedere, Lifestyle-Dubai and all the designers from The Press Room. Models from Lush swanned around wearing looks from the designers look books with makeup by Sephora bringing each designer’s seasonal codes to life – literally. More than 300 people joined us to raise their glass, toast The Press Room and launch the regular Fashion Finale events at Mahiki.

Krispy Kreme Karl

Karl Lagerfeld, Chanel creative and fashion godfather, has added another layer to his other-worldly oddball nature by revealing that he recently visited a supermarket for the first time ever – believe it or not, it was for fashion. Fans were first given a hint that the 78-year-old was up to something a little uncharacteristic, when, earlier in the week, he tweeted that the world would soon ‘see Karl like [it has] never seen him’.

Fashion insiders immediately began speculating what they may meet in the days ahead from the flashy designer, with Fashionista.com wondering whether he may, shockingly, remove his trademark sunglasses.

It was no such thing, just a swift jaunt down the aisle looking for stain remover and sweet treats – on a shoot for French Elle magazine which will be out next week.
Focussing on the most mundane of chores as the backdrop, we can’t wait to see what other menial tasks Karl gets up to in the shoot with his models faces du jour, Saskia de Brauw and Caroline Brasch Nielsen, wearing designs from the creative’s new Karl line.

For those who doubt the showman’s tale – how can a man be nearly 80 and not have bought an item from a supermarket, ever? – he told WWD: ‘It’s the first time I’ve stepped into a supermarket. It’s crazy – fascinating what one can buy. There’s enough here to easily gain 20 kilos.’

His diet worries are perhaps not surprising, given that the designer has openly criticised being overweight and claims that he himself ‘doesn’t eat’. He famously lost 90lbs after realising in 2000 that he was not happy with his physique.

Mr Lagerfeld once told W magazine that while he likes chocolate, he doesn’t eat it: ‘I like the smell of it. People can drink with their eyes; I can eat with my nose. I would love to have a perfume based on chocolate.’

Dsquared2 – the magic men

Dsquared² launched its new bag collection on February 23rd with a unique event at the Litta Theatre in Milan. Guests were able to toast to the new bags with a sparkly glass of champagne and a more risqué glass of absinthe. Fire eaters, strange creatures and fortune tellers wall contributed to create a phantasmagorical atmosphere reminiscent of the early 19th century. Wish we were there boys.

We are shivering with anticipation to hear the announcement that award-winning and

fashion fabulous Lucy Yeomans is going to be heading up the editorial team at our favourite online shopping destination. Teaming one of the print industry’s heavy-weights with such an innovator in new technology is sure to mean that we will only become more addicted to online shopping in the very near future and we can’t wait to see what the ex-Harper’s Bazaar Editor-in-Chief will bring to the editorial content of the magazine and it’s team of vast talent.

It’s a new role, so Ms Yeomans has no shoes to fill only a new place to play and we expect nothing less that a fashion revolution from the NET-A-PORTER team from here on in – needless to even imagine how ecstatic the designers must be…

Limited edition Miu Miu cameo collection

This spring Miu Miu presents a cameo capsule collection.

The collection consists of gold encrusted drop earrings, handcuffs and necklaces that are inspired by Baroque style. All accessories are adorned with a female profile done in bas-relief technique. tems are available in several color options: blue, grey, red, white and yellow.

The collection will be available in selected Miu Miu stores in March.

When I studied in Paris last year, I noticed the hype about the new French make-up brand called UNE. Being loyal to high-end brands like YSL, Dior and Chanel, I wasn’t interested in checking out yet another drug-store brand.

Yesterday I was in Festival City and I noticed the familiar minimalistic white packaging- UNE has made it to Dubai, so I finally decided to discover the brand.

It turned out to be new stand-alone brand produced by Bourjois Paris and it promises 98-100% natural and organic ingredients for all the product lines to take care of your skin. The shades range is quite impressive- 148 for 25 products. But don’t wait for daring colors that you could wear to a wedding. UNE is here to enhance your natural beauty.

What caught my eye was the Intuitive Touch BB-cream concealer for eyes. There are only 2 shades available. One was too pale and another one was quite bronze for my white “Dubai winter” skin and I was afraid none of them will suit me if I tried it on. But when I actually applied the concealer with my fingertip (I tried shade 1 07), I couldn’t believe my eyes! It blended so well, the tone was barely visible. It instantly concealed my dark circles and made my eyes brighter! I loved how soft and velvety it felt and my skin was moisturized until the evening! I also enjoyed the fact that the cover of the package has a built-in mirror so you don’t need to carry an extra mirror in your pouch if you want to re-apply the concealer during the day.

I was definitely blown away by the quality and touch of this product and I will continue discovering the range of UNE Natural Beauty and make some space for it in my make-up bag.
