Gallery Etemad Brings Mist Exhibition to Dubai

Gallery Etemad is proud to present Mist, an exhibition by Mehmet Ali Uysal, a Turkish contemporary artist who has generated a sound global following with his participation in some of the most esteemed art shows around the world.
The exhibit is set to run from the 13th of June to the 11th of July, but a select few of the region’s most respectable collectors were fortunate enough to be invited to the private preview on the 12th of June.
The ‘Photo Print Series’ from the Mist exhibition uses the trompe d’oeil technique to make human body parts seem to protrude from a white surface. Faceless human prototypes push against the flexible walls to give the illusion that someone is trapped inside the canvas and is trying to break through the surface to escape. This allows the spectator to be a part of the work— to speculate why the person inside is trying to break free from the mist.
Uysal has this to say on his latest collection:
“Smothering the surrounding crowd in a wave of mist, cleansing the body from all these elements and coming alive through this act of ” core cleansing ” exposes us to our basic being. Every statement that emerges through the covering wall of mist simplifies and smoothens our essence. Mist creates a unique sensory experience that leaves us open to new visual and sensory bombardments, we become open to a new heightened sense of being alone and open to the elements around us. The wrapping of mist around us creates a delicate state of touch between the eye and the skin, which can signify a new depth of experience beneath this veil. We are as fragile as we think, Mist acts as a confirmation of the depth of power that nature envelopes us with. We ignore it at our peril. The chaos that the day to day brings and the mundane lives that we live in, can be taken apart from that sensory feeling of exposure through mist. The thick curtain of reality and our perception of ourselves can be seen to be different in this sensory realm, and it points us to a far more mysterious otherness that lies beneath.”
