Versace’s Vanitas

In 2006, Germany came out with a movie adaptation of Patrick Süskind’s Perfume, a novel published in 1985. While it is a morbid tale of how a man goes on a killing spree to capture the scent of a woman, it gives us an idea how this scent, dubbed perfect, can drive any person wild— though certainly (dare we say hopefully?) not to this extent.
Our friends from Versace probably had this idea in mind when they prepared this intoxicating concoction they call Vanitas. Nothing morbid mind you, just a li’l something to poke sweet insanity to our senses, something they poetically describe as:
“Vanity and beauty
portrayed in a bright seductive fragrance
evoking both tactile and ethereal sensations.
Floating in the air, its lingering allure
is perceived by the sense of smell
that transforms it into something marvellously real.”
Seriously. Who wouldn’t want a spritz of that?
